Misbegotten Memories: Monuments, Memorials and Representations of a Slave Trade

This First Friday, February 2nd from 6ppm-9pm, ALAC is proud to present an evening with Dòwòti Désir, Human Rights Activist, celebrated photographer, and Haitian Voodoo scholar/priest.

 

Ms. Desir will be presenting Misbegotten Memories: Monuments, Memorials and Representations of a Slave Trade.

 

In honor of the UN International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024, ALAC is proud to present this special evening that will take us on an unimaginable journey to places our societies prefer to forget. Her photographs and voices of tragedy, resistance and triumph of the Transatlantic Slave Trade is documented in a collection of over 70 beautiful color images of memorials, monuments and historic sites from 16 countries in Africa, Europe and the Americas.

 

A question and answer period followed by a book signing will follow.
